With the opening of our second store at 6th and Fir
, we wanted to bring in a new design perspective that would complement but be distinct from what our customers are used to seeing at our Gastown location. Attracted to the pared-down minimalism of the Scandinavian aesthetic, we were sure String shelving from Sweden would make a perfect addition not just for the store, but for our customers as well.
In 1949, Nils Strinning entered his shelving design into a competition held by a Swedish book publisher and won first prize. String was founded shortly after. Since its founding, String shelving has been featured in numerous art exhibits and won multiple awards. In 1950, the UN ordered shelving for its new headquarters in New York City.
Presently, String offers their classic shelving system, with both perspex and wire shelving panels. Their Pocket line features an all-in-one wall-mounted shelving unit, perfect for small spaces. Additionally, their Works line features a selection of furniture and storage solutions for the contemporary office.
String's classic shelving system is available in multiple colours, two widths and two depths. Shelves come in ash, oak, walnut, black stained ash, grey and white. Complement any shelf with wire wall panels, available in white, black and grey. Pocket units come in an even wider array of colours including pink, green and cobalt blue. In addition, cabinets, chests and a folding table provide customers the flexibility to use their String unit as they see fit.
